Abstract

Pollen cataloging can aid in the investigation of plants used in the diet of pollinators in a given region. This study aimed to describe the pollen of plant species important for pollinators found on the campus of the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro, in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. Data collection was carried out in the vicinity of the Experimental Ecology building and in the main ornamental tree plantations on the campus. The species were identified, collected, anthers removed, preserved in glacial acetic acid, acetolyzed, and slides prepared in triplicate. The pollen grains were photomicrographed, measured and described according to the main external characteristics. Thirty plant species from the six main botanical families in bloom during the study period (February 2023 to May 2024) were described. The development of this study may provide subsidies for a better understanding of the ecological interactions between floral visitors and plants in urban environments.
