Abstract

The Priest Camille Torrend was a professor and researcher, acting mainly as a mycologist. He has published several scientific articles, making relevant contributions throughout his career. This work aimed to list the taxa described by the Priest, as well as the new combinations proposed by him and the names described in his honor from a bibliographic survey and querying virtual databases. Camille Torrend described 14 new genera and 149 new species, in addition to carrying out 74 new combinations. Torrend also collected about 4,000 specimens of plants and fungi, some of these unknown to science, described later by other researchers. Thirty-three taxa were named in his honor and have his name as a specific epithet (torrendii, torrendiana, torrendiella, torrendianum), at genus (Hymenotorrendiella, Torrendia, Torrendiella) and family levels (Torrendiaceae). The results obtained here demonstrate Torrend's valuable contribution as a taxonomist and indicate the need for nomenclatural and taxonomic studies.
