The Bignoniaceae is an important component of tropical forests, especially in Brazil, where the family is most diverse. Nevertheless, knowledge of this plant family is still fragmentary in several regions of the country, especially in the Western portions of Brazil. In this study, we present an updated checklist of the Bignoniaceae for the State of Mato Grosso (MT), Brazil. This list is based on multiple visits to local herbaria, analyses of specimen images available online, and field expeditions. Overall, we documented 115 species of the family for the Mato Grosso state, including the first record of the genus Godmania and new records of 12 species of Bignoniaceae for the State. Our results emphasize the importance of field expeditions and careful examination of local herbaria for accurate biodiversity documentation. Comprehensive species lists are extremely important to guide future sampling and biodiversity conservation efforts.
