Abstract

The present study aimed to describe the pollen morphology of 11 species of Asteraceae occurring in the restinga of the APA Rio Capivara, North Coast of the State of Bahia. The pollen grains were acetolyzed, measured, statistically treated, photomicrographed, and described under light microscopy. The analyzed pollen grains ranged from small to medium, predominantly with an oblate-spheroidal shape, less frequently prolate-spheroidal and spherical. The ambitus of the pollen grains varied from (sub)circular to subtriangular. Regarding the apertural type, all presented three colpori with long, narrow ectoapertures, pointed ends, lalongate to circular endoapertures, and lolongate in Lepidaploa mucronifolia (DC.) H. Rob. The exine is predominantly echinate, with the presence of cavea in some species, and only in L. mucronifolia it is lophate. Thus, the observed characteristics revealed pollen variability between species from different tribes, corroborating the eurypolynic condition attributed to Asteraceae.
